Andaz London Liverpool St by Hyatt: My Hotel Site Visit

Some hotel site visits are helpful. This one was genuinely fun.

While I was in London as a travel advisor, I had the privilege of touring one of our Signature preferred properties, Andaz London Liverpool Street by Hyatt, and I have not stopped thinking about it since. I went in expecting a beautiful historic hotel in a great location. I left with a full list of clients I could picture staying there.

This property has so much personality. It is historic without feeling stuffy, central without feeling loud, and polished without being overly formal. It has restaurants locals actually go to, vintage furniture tucked into quiet lounges, art from local artists throughout the building, complimentary minibars in the rooms, and some of the best hotel stories I heard during my entire London trip.

And then there is the hidden Masonic temple. More on that in a minute.

The location makes London feel easy

One of the biggest selling points of Andaz London Liverpool Street by Hyatt is the location. It is right next to Liverpool Street Station, which makes getting around London incredibly simple. You can hop on the Tube and be in so many neighborhoods within minutes.

For clients who want London to feel manageable, this is huge.

Liverpool Street is also connected to rail service, which can be helpful depending on the itinerary. If someone is flying in, out, or planning day trips, this area can make logistics feel much less stressful. I always pay attention to that on site visits because location can make or break a trip, especially for first-time London travelers.

The hotel is also right near Eataly, which is such a fun bonus. If you have ever stayed in a hotel where you just need a quick bite, a coffee, a snack, or something casual after a long day, having Eataly next door is genuinely convenient.

What stood out to me most is that this part of London gives you access without the price tag of some of the more obvious luxury areas. Mayfair and Covent Garden are wonderful, but they often come with higher hotel rates. Andaz Liverpool Street can be a great option for clients who still want a stylish, high-end stay, but do not necessarily need to be in those neighborhoods.

It feels like a smart luxury choice. You are still central. You are still well connected. You still have a beautiful hotel. You may just get more value here than in some of London’s most expensive hotel zones.

The hotel is historic, but not old-fashioned

The building itself is one of the earliest hotels built in that area of London, and you feel its history right away. Not in a dusty, museum-like way. More in the sense that the walls have stories, and the hotel has done a really nice job keeping that character alive.

The overall vibe is calm, quiet, and relaxed. There are beautiful older architectural details mixed with cool vintage furniture, contemporary artwork, and comfortable lounge spaces. It does not feel like a hotel trying too hard to be trendy. It feels collected over time.

That is one of the things I loved most.

Some hotels are pretty, but they could be anywhere. This one feels very much like London. The history is layered into the property, and the team seems proud to share it. If you stay here, I would absolutely recommend asking if a hotel tour is available because the stories are fascinating.

I kept finding myself saying, “Wait, that is connected to the hotel too?”

That happened a lot during the tour.

The restaurants are a destination on their own

One of the most interesting things about the property is how many restaurants and bars are onsite. Even better, they are not just “hotel restaurants” in the typical sense.

Several are visited by non-hotel guests, and honestly, you might not even realize they are connected to the hotel. They feel like standalone London restaurants, which I think is a major plus. It gives the property energy and makes it feel more local.

For clients, that means options. You can come back after sightseeing and not have to think too hard about dinner. You can meet someone for a drink without leaving the building. You can have a great meal onsite without feeling like you settled for convenience.

And then there was one restaurant story that completely stopped me.

During the tour, I was told that one of the restaurant spaces was once connected to a former asylum setting, and some of the original drawings from patients can still be seen on the walls. It is eerie, emotional, and so unexpected. I know “crazy” is the word that naturally comes to mind because it truly is wild to hear, but standing there, it felt more fascinating than anything else.

It is not the kind of detail you would ever know unless someone on the hotel team told you. That is exactly why I love site visits. Photos and room descriptions only tell part of the story. Walking the property with someone who knows its history brings it to life.

The hidden Masonic temple was unreal

This was easily the most memorable part of the visit.

The hotel team shared that when Hyatt took over the property in the late 2000s and reviewed the blueprints, they noticed something unusual. There was a hidden room inside the hotel.

So they opened up the walls.

Behind them was this incredibly preserved Masonic temple with gorgeous marble detailing. It felt like stepping into a movie scene. You are walking through a modern luxury hotel, then suddenly you are inside this dramatic, ornate room that had been hidden away.

I really do not think I can do it justice in writing. It was stunning.

There are certain moments on hotel tours that stay with you, and this was one of them. I have seen beautiful lobbies, suites, spas, and rooftop views, but this was different. It was the kind of discovery that gives a hotel a true sense of place.

It also made me appreciate how much history is tucked behind the scenes in London. You can walk past a building a hundred times and have no idea what is inside.

For clients who love architecture, design, history, or just a good story, this property would be such a fun recommendation. It is not just a place to sleep. It is a place with layers.

The rooms are quiet, practical, and comfortable

Even though the hotel is in a busy part of London, the rooms felt surprisingly quiet. That is something I always listen for on site visits, especially in major cities. Outside noise can really affect a stay, and here, I could not hear the surrounding activity from inside.

That is a big win.

The rooms have a calm, comfortable feel. They are not overly fussy. They also make sense for different types of travelers, which is something I appreciate when matching clients to hotels.

A few room details stood out:

  • Complimentary minibars in each room, which is such a nice touch

  • A work area in every room, helpful for business travelers or anyone who needs to catch up on emails

  • A quiet atmosphere, despite the central location

  • Stylish design that still feels relaxed and usable

  • Options with Peloton bikes, which is such a fun perk

The Peloton partnership is especially unique. Some rooms have Peloton bikes, and guests can even cycle for points. I can immediately think of clients who would love that. For travelers who like keeping a routine on the road, it is a small detail that makes a stay feel smoother.

The hotel also has a nice gym, so guests who prefer a full workout space have that option too.

It works really well for business travelers too

This hotel definitely attracts business travelers, and that makes sense. The location is convenient, the rooms have workspaces, and there are meeting areas onsite. The whole property feels polished enough for work travel, but still cool enough that it does not feel like a standard business hotel.

That balance is not always easy to find.

A lot of business hotels can feel cold. This one does not. It has personality, lounges, restaurants, art, history, and a sense of calm. If someone is traveling for meetings but wants to add a little leisure time around the edges, I think this would be a great fit.

I also like it for couples or solo travelers who want to be well connected and do not need the most tourist-heavy location. It gives easy access to the city, but the hotel itself feels like a retreat once you are inside.

The thoughtful arrival and departure perks are a big deal

One of my favorite practical details was the setup for early check-in or late check-out situations.

The hotel has showers and changing rooms guests can use, plus luggage storage. That might not sound glamorous, but if you have ever landed in Europe early in the morning after an overnight flight, you know how valuable this is.

Sometimes your room is not ready yet. Sometimes you have a late flight and do not want to spend your last day dragging bags around London. Having a place to freshen up and store luggage can change the whole mood of a travel day.

As a travel advisor, I love when hotels think through these moments. They are not always the moments that show up in glossy photos, but they matter so much in real life.

A shower after a long flight before heading out to lunch? Amazing.

A place to change before going to the airport? So helpful.

A hotel that understands travelers do not always arrive and depart on a perfect schedule? Even better.

The art and design give the hotel a local feel

Another detail I loved is that the hotel partners with local artists and displays their work throughout the property. This made the hotel feel more connected to London instead of looking like a generic luxury space.

The design has a lot of personality. There are little corners where you can sit, rest, read, or have a drink. The vintage furniture adds warmth. The artwork adds color and local character. The historic architecture gives it depth.

It all works together in a way that feels easy, not overdesigned.

That is probably why the hotel felt so relaxed to me. It has a lot going on, including restaurants, history, events, and a major train station next door, but it never felt chaotic inside. The public spaces felt comfortable and calm.

That is exactly the kind of detail I want to know before booking a client. A hotel can be in a high-energy location and still give you a peaceful place to come back to. Andaz Liverpool Street does that really well.

Who I would book here

After seeing the property, I can picture several types of travelers loving it.

I would especially consider it for:

  • Travelers who want a central London hotel with great transportation access

  • Clients who want a luxury stay but may not want Mayfair or Covent Garden pricing

  • Business travelers who need comfort, quiet, and easy logistics

  • Couples who like hotels with history and personality

  • Solo travelers who want a well-connected base

  • Food lovers who enjoy having strong restaurant options onsite

  • Peloton fans or wellness-minded travelers who like keeping routines on the road

  • Anyone who appreciates a hotel with a good story

I would probably not position it as the first choice for someone who wants to step directly into the most classic tourist version of London every morning. If a client has their heart set on Mayfair, Knightsbridge, or Covent Garden, those neighborhoods may still be the better match.

But for the right traveler, this hotel is such a smart choice.

It gives you access, style, history, comfort, and value in a way that really stood out to me.

My biggest takeaway from the site visit

This was honestly my favorite site visit in London because it surprised me. I expected to like the hotel. I did not expect to be talking about hidden rooms, marble temples, preserved drawings, Peloton points, chefs, local artists, quiet rooms, and luggage-day showers all in the same tour.

That is what makes Andaz London Liverpool Street by Hyatt so special. It has the practical things travelers need, but it also has the stories that make a stay memorable.

If you ever stay here, request a hotel tour if you can. Hearing the stories behind the building made me appreciate it so much more. There is history around every corner, but the hotel still feels modern, comfortable, and easy.

I left feeling excited to book clients here, which is always the best sign. Some properties look good on paper. This one is even better in person.
